Andrew and Tristan Tate Arrested in Miami Amid UK Extradition Request

US Marshals arrested social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate in Miami on Saturday under a sealed warrant. The arrests were carried out pursuant to extradition proceedings initiated by the United Kingdom.

The UK's Crown Prosecution Service announced 38 additional charges related to four further alleged victims on the same day as the arrest, bringing the combined total to 59 charges involving seven alleged victims. Both brothers deny all UK allegations.

The Tate brothers hold dual US and British citizenship. The brothers moved to Romania in 2016.

Andrew Tate appeared on the UK reality show Big Brother in 2016 and was removed after a video emerged appearing to show him assaulting a woman. The brothers were previously arrested in Romania in December 2022 on allegations of human trafficking, forming an organized criminal group, and rape, and spent three months in custody before moving to house arrest and later judicial supervision.

Romania lifted the brothers' travel restrictions in February 2025, enabling them to travel to Florida. The brothers are expected to appear in federal court in Miami early the week following their arrest.

Andrew Tate now faces a total of 42 charges in the UK, including seven counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 counts relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate faces a total of 17 charges, including two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The alleged offenses underlying the UK charges occurred between July 2010 and August 2017.

US lawyer Joseph McBride described the new UK charges as 'filth and slander' and argued they were intended to derail the brothers' defamation lawsuits in the US.

Outlets differ in how they characterize the status of the Romanian case against the brothers. A Romanian court returned the original case to prosecutors over legal and procedural irregularities. Center-leaning Deutsche Welle reported that the case 'didn't go forward,' while Russian state-controlled RT News emphasized that 'charges were not dismissed,' reflecting different framings of whether the case remains active.

Center and center-left outlets Euronews and Politico Europe characterize the Tate brothers as vocal supporters of US President Donald Trump with a large following on the American right. These outlets also describe the brothers as prominent figures in the online 'manosphere,' a male-centered social media movement associated with anti-feminist discourse.

Euronews alone reported that the UK charges allege the brothers abused women in an area north of London, investigated by Bedfordshire Police. The outlet also specified that the Crown Prosecution Service had previously announced charges against the brothers in 2025 relating to alleged crimes against three women before the new charges were filed.

Euronews reported that Andrew Tate faces an additional charge of exploiting prostitution beyond the rape and trafficking counts. The outlet also reported that Andrew Tate built a large online following promoting a hypermasculine lifestyle and has been banned from YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram for violating hate-speech guidelines.

Euronews reported that Andrew Tate made public comments suggesting women who suffer sexual assault bear some responsibility for attacks, graphic descriptions of assaulting women, and attacks on people seeking mental health treatment.

Russian state-controlled RT News alone reported a dispute between actors regarding political pressure: Trump administration officials reportedly raised the Tate brothers' case with Romanian authorities, while Romanian officials denied facing US pressure.
